The Teams
At the Polo Club of UW-Madison we have three teams aimed at improving riders at all experience levels. Those three teams are Varsity, JV, and Club. Each of the following teams have different expectations, time requirements, costs, and intensities so we encourage you to see which team is right for you!
Varsity
"Varsity represents the university at a competitive level playing for a seat at the USPA intercollegiate nationals...Competing in separate divisions, the top men’s and women’s teams battle for a chance to advance to the National Intercollegiate Championship.” - United States Polo Association
Requirements:

Individuals must know the sport of polo well

Individuals are able to perform confidently and quickly on any horse

Individuals are aggressive players

Individuals must make majority practices
Varsity practices are 2 times a week with frequent travel. The cost is $700 per semester.
JV
JV is designed for riders who have had experience around horses and are confident and safe in the saddle. JV goes focuses more on polo skills and strategy than basic riding skills. Here you will learn to fine-tune your skills, work up your playing speed, and play in traveling polo games. JV is also a great place for more experienced polo players to be if they are not able to dedicate the time to varsity.

JV practices are once a week and cost $650 per semester
Club
Club is a great place to start if you have little experience around horses. Here we will teach you how to groom, tack, basic riding techniques. You will be able to stick-and-ball during each practice with learning goals aimed for you to play chukkars at the end of the semester.
Club does not have a required riding ability to join.
Club practices are once a week and a semester of playing club will cost $600
